East Moravia

The diverse monuments of East Moravia invite you to visit with their unique treasures and mysterious stories. Head to the never-conquered Buchlov Castle in Chřiby or admire the beauty of the Archbishop’s Castle in Kroměříž, which together with the Podzámecká and Květná Gardens is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Cyril and Methodius Route European cultural trail will take you to significant pilgrimage sites. Beautiful monuments and traditions

The Archbishop‘s Castle in Kroměříž, and the Podzámecká and Květná Gardens among the most important monuments in the Czech Republic or unique communities of meadows and pastures with a rich occurrence of orchids in the White Carpathians. Tradition-rich Slovácko with its ancient textile printing technique blueprint, men’s verbuňk dance and the ceremonial procession of the traditional ride of the kings.

 

Churches and stories of the saints

Follow in the footsteps of Slavic cultural and educational heritage. The Cyril and Methodius Route European cultural trail will take you through archaeological monuments from the 9th century, archaeoparks, and places of pilgrimage including Svatý Hostýn and Štípa u Zlína. An important pilgrimage point is the Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and St. Cyril and Methodius in Velehrad.

Castles and Chateaux

Magical fairytale places

Ancient aristocratic residences, the never-conquered Buchlov Castle in Chřiby, Buchlovice Château – an architectural gem in the Italian Baroque style, and the Archbishop’s Castle and Gardens, which are included in the UNESCO list. Lešná Château laid the foundations for one of the most visited zoos in the Czech Republic – Zlín Zoo. But you can also learn about the history of almost thirty other castles and châteaux.

Unique exhibits and live crafts

The Rožnov Wallachian Open Air Museum is one of the oldest open-air museums in Europe. In its premises you can admire almost a hundred objects that remind us of life in Wallachia. But there are a number of interesting museums in the region that are worth seeing. Be sure not to miss the Museum of South-east Moravia in Zlín with the Baťa Principles exhibit or the Slovácko Museum in Uherské Hradiště, which will introduce you to the traditions and customs of the Slovácko region.
